Learn Tablio step by step

The same illustrated guide that's inside the app: a short clip and clear steps for each task. Videos presented by Tabi are coming soon.

Getting started

Open an Excel file

  1. On Home, drop your file anywhere on the page, or click “Drop your file here” to choose it.
  2. If the file is password-protected, Tablio asks for the password first.
  3. The file’s tables and sheets appear; click one to see and work on its data.

Create a new project

  1. On Home, click “New project”.
  2. Type the file name, then the tables and their columns.
  3. Use the type button next to each column: text, number, date, list…
  4. Click “Create project”; the file opens ready for data entry.

Start from a template

  1. On Home, click “Templates”.
  2. Pick one: grades, inventory, attendance, project tracking or customers.
  3. The new project page is filled with columns and types; adjust, then create the file.

Design the sheet

  1. In “New project”, or after picking a template, open the “Sheet design” tab.
  2. Pick a cell to type titles and notes; select cells to merge them and set the font, size, colours and borders.
  3. Click a table to pick its look from the gallery, change its colours or move it.
  4. Use the undo button or Ctrl+Z to undo.
  5. For an open file, click “Design” next to the worksheet, then “Save design”.

Working with data

Add and edit rows

  1. Open a table from the current file.
  2. Click “Add row” for a new line, or click any row to edit it.
  3. Every value is checked against its column type, with a preview of what will be saved.
  4. “Add as new row” copies the open row with your edits.
  5. For a quick change, double-click a text or number cell, type and press Enter (Esc cancels); in the row window Ctrl+Enter saves at once.
  6. If data or another table sits under the table, only the cells in the table’s columns move down on export; what is beside it stays.

Set column types

  1. In the table view, click the column title.
  2. Choose a type: date, time, integer, decimal, percent, currency, yes/no, list or dependent list.
  3. A live preview shows how values will look; then click “Save”.

Computed (formula) columns

  1. When a file opens, Tablio finds the columns computed by Excel formulas and marks them ƒ.
  2. They show the values Excel saved and are not edited, so the formula is never lost.
  3. A new row gets the formula automatically; it is calculated when the file opens in Excel.
  4. Managers only: “Switch to manual entry” in the column menu turns them into editable fixed values.

Export your file

  1. Click “Export”, then “Excel file” to download the file with all your edits.
  2. To protect it with a password pick “Export Excel with a password” in the same menu; “CSV file” gives this table’s data only.
  3. Files are not kept on the server after the session ends; export your work before you leave.
  4. Managers: turn on “Lock protected columns in the Excel file” under “Manager tools” to lock read-only and computed columns in the file itself.

Team & management

Invite your team

  1. In “Organization”, type the member’s email, choose a role (manager or member) and send the invitation.
  2. The member receives a join link by email.
  3. From the same page you can message the team, change roles and see the audit log.

Member access

  1. On a table or sheet card, click the shield and choose: open to members, read only or hidden.
  2. For one column: in the column menu choose “Members: can edit / read only / hidden”.
  3. A hidden sheet hides its tables; a read-only sheet makes its tables read only.
  4. The rules are saved in the file, and hidden columns and sheets are hidden in Excel too on export.
  5. To lock them in Excel itself, turn on “Lock protected columns in the Excel file” in “Manager tools”.

Merge team files

  1. In the current file, open “Admin tools”, then “Merge files” (managers).
  2. Choose the branch or member files to merge into your master file.
  3. Review new and changed rows and accept what you want.

Manager review

  1. In the current file, open “Admin tools”, then “Manager review”.
  2. The changes are listed so you can check them before approving the file.

Follow the reports

  1. Open “Reports” from the main bar.
  2. Managers see every member’s activity; members see their own.
  3. Pick a period to see edits, exports and active time.

Ask for support

  1. Open “Support” from the main bar.
  2. Choose the kind of problem, describe it and send the ticket.
  3. Replies appear on the same page and by email. We never see your files’ content.
